Artist Statement

I have an interest in graphic design so colour, pattern, and repetition are design elements that I often refer to in my work. Over the past few years I have researched and experimented with titanium anodising using a variety of “masks” and “resists” in order to be able to produce controlled colour on a titanium surface.

Titanium was first utilised by the aerospace industry because of its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and durability. Today, titanium is used in a wide variety of products including bike frames, golf clubs, laptop computer cases, heart valves, eyeglass frames and watch bands. I use titanium because it is lightweight, it can be coloured & is non-allergenic which altogether makes it an ideal metal for use in jewellery.

My training as a Designer and Silversmith and my quest to develop technically as a jeweller has given me the ability to tackle design and manufacturing challenges. I constantly try to be inventive in my outlook, developing technical methods to help in the making process. Ideas lead to processes, processes generate designs! And hopefully payment. I enjoy working to exacting standards to produce work that is both precise and aesthetically pleasing. And importantly , liaising with clients to fulfill their design requirements.

Over the years I have built up a well equipped workshop. I make tools to help when I have to repeat operations.

Though Silversmithing is my preferred medium, most of my work is in Gold. I also do a range of work in Titanium and 18ct gold. I am trying to complete a project ‘Memoirs of Morocco’.
