Taste of TAFE

Posted: 2 July 2008 |

On 26 May 2008, 12 high school students from Home Schooling and Canterbury High spent three hands on hours making a pair of sterling silver earrings. Each student experimented with disc cutters, patterning, doming and forming of perfect earring loops using a jig prepared by Majella Beck, the teacher in charge. The event had been organised by Tony Garske, CEO Petersham/Design Centre Enmore and the Inner West Business Partnership organisation. High School students are invited to experience different learning and working environments outside their school classroom. It is hoped that this may enable them to make a more informed choice regarding their own professional future.

The Jewellery Design and Trade Department enjoyed opening their facility to these enthusiastic students and hope they will have gained a little insight as to the possibilities working in the Jewellery Industry.
