19 students and 2 staff members from the Jewellery and Object Design Department visited Melbourne between 14 and 17 October 2008. During the trip they enjoyed visiting the following jewellery galleries: e.g.etal, Gallery Funaki, Studio Ingot, Pieces of Eight, Glitzern and Self Preservation and meeting the gallery owners, many of whom gave wonderful talks about their galleries. They were also lucky enough to visit the storage facility of the National Gallery of Victoria to view items from the contemporary Australian hollow ware collection and hear fascinating artist talks about the current exhibitions at Craft Victoria by Anna Davern, Stephen Gallagher and Irene Grishin-Selzer. Other highlights of the action packed trip included a tour of the Gold and Silversmithing Department at RMIT and seeing the Klippel/Klippel Opus 2008 exhibition at the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia. They had such an interesting time that quite frequently other tourists tried to join the group as they walked around the city!
