This morning 2006 graduate Liesl Hazelton was announced as the winner of the 2009 Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship.
The 2009 Design NSW: Travelling Scholarship is a grant of $18,000 that assists a NSW designer at the beginning of their career to undertake a program of professional development overseas. The Scholarship is presented by the Powerhouse Museum and Arts NSW in partnership with the British Council.
As part of the scholarship, Liesl plans to spend time in Korea working with a lighting designer and then to travel to the UK and potentially Russia to develop her textile craft skills.
Liesl has had an exciting time since graduating from Enmore and has just returned to Sydney following two years overseas which have seen her studying at Pforzheim in Germany, exhibiting her work in Milan and working with leading Dutch jewellery designers on a Red Light District project in Amsterdam. Before commencing her Scholarship project, Liesl will return to Europe for her first solo exhibition in Belgium in September.
Liesl made special mention of her studies at Enmore in the speech that she gave as part of the award ceremony and sends her best wishes and thanks to all. I have invited her to come and give a talk for the Department about her experiences overseas to date as I am certain that the current students will find her experiences as infectious enthusiasm inspiring! She will also send us more details about this achievement to add to the news page of our website.
