Jewellery for Julia

Posted: 20 October 2011 |

On 7th October, Prime Minister Julia Gillard visited Ballarat to announce the funding of an $18 million training centre at the University of Ballarat. Whilst there, Julia Gillard could be seen wearing a rather special piece of jewellery – a silver necklace showcasing the National Skills Week logo which was designed and made by a student from Jewellery + Object Design at Design Centre Enmore, TAFE NSW, Caroline Alexander. Caroline won a design competition held by Design Centre Enmore TAFE which challenged the students to design a piece of jewellery that could be worn by the prime minister during National Skills Week, using the logo as the main focus.
Caroline wrote a blog about her experience designing the piece!

I was never sure of what I would like to be…until now.

Using the 2011 National Skills Week logo (shape) as a design element, and repetition as well as unity for the design principle, my aim was to create a
neckpiece that would be suitable to be worn by the Prime Minister to portray style and elegance.
Winning the jewellery for Julia design competition has been a great start for my career as a Jewellery and Object Designer.
