Hand Engraving Fundamentals

TAFE NSW Course in Hand Engraving Fundamentals – proposed (19226 ) is a course for people who want to apply hand engraving techniques on precious and non precious metals, jewellery, silver and/or gold hollow-ware and ornaments. Students attend on a part time basis in the evening for 3 hours per week over two years.

Students will develop safe work practices and skills in lettering design, layout and drawing, learn to apply highly specialised engraving techniques to various styles of hand engraving, carving and decorative finishes.

After finishing the course graduates work in the jewellery and related industries to design and execute quality engraving in accordance with the requirements of a jeweller and/or client.

Entry Requirements

NSW School Certificate (or equivalent); and/or successful completion of year one and year two of the Certificate 3 in Jewellery Manufacture, and/or equivalent competencies or related industry, and/or other craft-based experience. Applications are not required for this course; enrolments occur every two years – next enrolment will be at the beginning of 2009.
